Toto Wolff is in advanced talks to offload part of his shareholding in the Mercedes F1 outfit.

This transaction values Mercedes at £4.6bn – a record for a Formula 1 squad – after McLaren were valued at £3.5bn in an adjustment to ownership structure in September.

Wolff, who owns one-third of the Mercedes F1 operation, plans to divest a shareholding in the region of 5%.

The 53-year-old will remain as team boss and chief executive officer should the deal proceed.

Ownership Structure

Remaining partners in Mercedes F1 are Mercedes and industrial group Ineos, who both hold a third of the company.

A Mercedes spokesperson stated: "We will be making no official statement on this. The management structure of the team will remain unaltered, and all three partners are fully committed to the ongoing success of the brand in F1."

Financial Increase

This arrangement signifies a significant increase in value of Mercedes F1 since Ineos Group acquired its stake for £208m in 2022.

The rise reflects the expansion in market values of Formula 1 outfits recently due to the increasing appeal of the sport around the world.

This trend was evident with the success of the F1 movie featuring Brad Pitt, which debuted last summer and earned more than $630 million (£458m) at the box office.

The film represents the actor's top-grossing movie and the highest-earning sports movie to date.

Present Performance

The Mercedes team are runner-up in the constructors' championship, behind McLaren Racing, with three races left in the current championship.

Their lead driver British driver George Russell has won two of the 21 races so far and is in fourth place in the individual standings after McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen.

The team won a record eight consecutive team titles and seven drivers' titles, six won by Lewis Hamilton and one by Nico Rosberg, from 2014 to 2021.
