Why the Democratic Party is Hiding their 2024 Election Autopsy: A Deep Dive.

The action from the Democratic National Committee to suppress the release of its own post-election analysis concerning the 2024 election appears shocking however not surprising. Opposed to frank assessments, the party's leadership apparatus often functions more like a communications shop than an electoral entity devoted to cultivating local power to secure victories.

A Culture of Conformity

Reluctant to challenge the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the DNC has stayed within the influence of the previous administration throughout this past year. Making public an official autopsy might have shown that the leadership are interested to encourage public discourse regarding the errors that enabled the former president to become president again. Instead, the leadership is moving forward under the pretense that there are no lessons to be learned following the electoral catastrophe of 2024.

The top priority: is this good for winning elections? Should the answer be negative, it’s a distraction from what truly matters," a rationale reportedly given to justify concealing the report.

Critical Problems an Autopsy Could Have Explored

An autopsy report worth its salt would tackle head-on certain uncomfortable matters. Among them are:

  • Voter Alienation: The loss of millions of voters who voted for the Democratic ticket in 2020 became a critical factor in the close 2024 election.
  • A Insistence to Seek Re-election: The stubborn insistence of the incumbent to stay in the race, and a very late exit, is viewed as robbing Democratic voters of a competitive nomination process.
  • Abandoning Everyday Americans: Amid rising costs, the electoral effort is criticized for bowing to corporate donors' interests while failing to challenge the effects of profit-seeking.
  • The Gaza Impact: The failure to shift a policy position concerning the situation in Gaza reportedly led to losing many voters, especially with youth voters, Arab-Americans, Muslim voters.
  • A Decline in Young Voter Backing: Polling data demonstrates a significant decrease of Democratic support among voters aged 18-29.

A History Avoiding Accountability

Choosing secrecy fits a recurring tendency of sidestepping hard truths. This mirrors a situation where nearly all elected Democrat in Congress acquiesced to an incumbent's insistence on seeking another term until a catastrophic public debate performance forced a reversal.

Meanwhile, a significant majority of Democratic voters had been repeatedly informing pollsters of their opposition to the incumbent to seek re-election.

Campaign Spending Concerns

A substantive analysis would also probe issues about campaign spending, such as the amounts were directed to insider consultants and advertising contractors during a campaign which expended a staggering sum during the general election.

The Broader Problem

Fundamentally, the secrecy of the official autopsy is symptomatic of a deference toward the existing power structure responsible for a disastrous presidential campaign. The signal for the party's base – which includes millions of small donors – appears to be that they cannot be trusted to see the lessons the insiders have learned based on an analysis based on feedback from all states.

An organization incapable to critically review where it went wrong is unlikely to climb out of the pattern which was so beneficial to the winning candidate.
